How can I get involved?
Volunteering is a great way to build your skills and get the experience you need to work in the Substance Misuse field.
If you're looking to take that step or add another aspect to your CV - then volunteering is for you! Whether you're a professional in another field or an ex-service user, take a look for further information.
We are looking for volunteers in a service near you and recommend you to look at the following sites for information on the volunteering process and at any opportunities in your area (NB: to apply to volunteer usually requires an application form and, if you are successful, a CRB check):
Turning Point Volunteering: Turning Point provides substance misuse services across East Berkshire and other areas. Opportunities include befrienders, mentors and admin workers - this work will give you great insight into social care and substance misuse work.
CRI Volunteering: CRI in East Berkshire are recruiting trainee counselors and Graduate/assistant psychologists to completed placements in the service. Full training is provided. Please contact Louise Cromwell on 07747560388 for further information.
SMART CJS Volunteering: SMART CJS currently runs a volunteer mentoring scheme in the local area and is developing a wider volunteer programme.
Equinox Project 316 Volunteering: Equinox provides a residential structured treatment programme in Slough. Here, and other Equinox Care Projects, are always looking for enthusiastic volunteers with or without specialist skills.
Slough CVS Volunteering: Slough Community Voluntary Service is your local charity set up to help people who want to start a voluntary group or who want to see their existing group develop its work, get funds or undertake new services.
Barnardo's Volunteering: This service is based in Reading providing information and guidance to people in the area about various issues, including substance misuse. Other volunteering schemes are in operation around the South East.
See The People: This is a useful website for how to progress in the Substance Misuse Field.
Also - remember to keep your eyes peeled in your local Job Centre or local papers for volunteering opportunities in this, and other relevant fields.
